Called Hip and Stylish by Sunset Magazine, the Blue Iguana Inn is conveniently located at Ventura Avenue on Highway 33, at the corner of Loma Drive. The inn was designed and built by renowned Ojai Architect, Marc Whitman. It was built in an old mission style reminiscent of Mexico and old California with arched entrances, terra cotta curved roofing, and rugged outpost railing. Large Ojai River rocks tumble into place forming corners. Flagstone paths are marked with intricate inset stone designs hand inlaid by Julia Whitman. The exquisite handmade Mediterranean tiles on the walls and around the pool were created by celebrated Ojai Studio Artists Richard Keit and Mary Kennedy. At the entry, guests are greeted by Marc Whitmans imposing Blue Iguana tile mosaic sculpture and fountain, as one wander around the garden, look for other mysterious creatures hidden throughout the grounds such as a little blue azurite lizard, a gecko on the wall, and a serpent in the stones. The old world ambiance of the inn is complemented by the warm and friendly environment created by Manager, Lia Dalidd. Her competence is surpassed only by her desire to make all guests feel comfortable and happy. The artistry is continued in each of the guestrooms. The Blue Iguanas owner, Julia Whitman has overseen the individual design and decoration of each room. Whether one choose a fully equipped, one or two bedroom, kitchen suite or a single room, one will find the walls decorated with original artworks from some of Ojais best known artists. Each room has been uniquely furnished with hand-chosen, authentic Mexican furniture and decorated with rugs and accessories from throughout the world. All rooms are spacious and feature expanded channel color TV, telephones with free local calls, refreshment bar, coffee makers, and of course air-conditioning.
